Barbara Eko Murphy

Barbara has focused her passionate study of art in the area of watercolor painting, watermedia, portraiture and human figure drawing. While continuing to pursue this objective, she has studied with several area fine artists at Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center , Visual Arts Association of Livonia and a multitude of Michigan workshops presented by internationally known visiting artists. Barbara has also been an avid viewer in art museums and galleries around the USA and Europe. As a classroom teacher, she integrated the arts in her elementary classroom. Barbara opened up the world to little viewers…and their appreciation of fine arts & theatre.

Though Barbara has an eclectic representation in her art…she enjoys focusing on people the most. She uses watercolors, charcoals and inks. Barbara enjoys adding movement to her paintings…stemming from her background of being a dancer. She loves experimenting with color and design….that comes along with the surprising happenings in the movement of watercolor. Rather than trying to copy pictures realistically, she strives for stretching a looser interpretation. She wants you to see that her ideas are original. Barbara enjoys being a student , after years of teaching in the elementary classroom. She feels learning never stops…art has opened another chapter to the dessert of her life!

Barbara is presently a member of Lawrence Street Gallery, Detroit Society of Women Painters and Sculptors, Michigan Watercolor Society, BBAC, VAAL ,NAH, and the DIA.
